America's dependence on foreign oil best compared to a drug addiction. Whoever is in charge of whose oil we use is probably confused. It's like America is the guy at the party, bumming cigarettes off of everyone when he's got a full pack in his pocket. We seem to want to waste what everyone else has before get to our own supply.
The United States imports more than 20 million barrels of oil a day, and we use it all... We leave no room for comfort, buying over sized SUV's and large trucks that are far from fuel efficient, and we use them to drive our happy selves around. Strangely whenever I see a very large vehicle on the road I see that there is usually only one person in that robust monster.
This phenom is probably because of the way our culture works. Now it seems that if one wishes to be seen as wealthy he/she must drive in something that that takes up an entire road. something that takes so much gas that the fumes are intoxicating. Yet we complain when gas prices reach all new highs.
Like to fuel vehicles, gas is also used to fuel our addictions. People will drive for many miles to go see people waist precious gas at a NASCAR race. Why, are we that absurd? Instead of using someone else's oil to fuel our giant idiotic gas-guzzlers we should use what we have here. The question, I guess, is how much of our own oil do we have left?
